Lorain County Community College’s Commodore Conversations was established to continuously uplift our Culture of Care, reaffirm and strengthen our commitment to equity as outlined in Vision 2025. This day of dialogue, on October 2nd, 2020, offered opportunities to listen, learn, and inspire action.
We engaged students, leadership, faculty and staff in a facilitated and meaningful conversation on race, racial justice, equity and inclusion on our college campus. Elements included: panel and roundtable discussions, closed affinity group conversations and the student voice.
The Discussion Topics included:
- Police Academies and Security Services on College Campuses
- Addressing Health Disparities
- What Are Our Rights?
- Gender & Race
- The Power of Media/Medium and the Advancement of Civil Rights
- Trauma: The Impact on the Individual
This guide provides a wealth of resources on the Discussion Topics. The resources may be used by students, faculty, staff, and the greater community to enrich their lives and the lives of others. Panelists have the option to include their suggested resources on this guide, and so those resources will be made available once they are ready.
