Exercise Physiologist, Professor Lisa Augustine, PhD, is an Exercise Physiologist who has spent over 20 years working in corporate fitness, cardiac rehabilitation, health/wellness centers and in higher education. She has been a Professor and Program Coordinator for Health, Physical Education, and Recreation at Lorain County Community College since 1997. Lisa will be guest speaker at the Bass Library's Focus on Faculty event where she will discuss Striking a Healthier Work-Life Balance. The event will take place from 12-1 pm in LC 209 (LCCC Bass Library) on Wednesday, October 19, 2016, and is free and open to the public. Degrees and Certificates Lisa earned her Bachelor’s Degree and Master’s Degree in Exercise Physiology from Kent State University. In 2016 Lisa also earned her PhD in Higher Education through the University of Toledo. She is nationally certified as a group exercise instructor and personal trainer through ACE (American Council of Exercise), AFAA (Aerobics and Fitness Association of America), and NCSF (Nation Council on Strength & Fitness). In addition, she is T-BOW certified and is a Zumba and Zumba Toning instructor. |
Program Coordinator
In her role as program coordinator Lisa has headed the LCCC Campus Community Wellness Offerings - LiveSmart 2020 for employees. She is also the LCCC coordinator for the Sport and Fitness Management Degree and coordinator for short term technical certificates in wellness, personal training and group exercise instruction. Lisa is also the Tobacco-Free Campus Coordinator and grant recipient.
Interim Dean
Lisa has served as LCCC's Interim Dean of Health, Physical Education, Recreation & Student Life (HPERSL) from 2009- 2015 and as Co-Interim Dean of HPERSL in 2008. She also is now serving (2015-2016) as Co-Interim Dean of Allied Health & Nursing (AHN).
Courses
Courses she has taught include Introduction to Exercise Science; Fundamentals of Sport and Fitness Management, CPR, the Practicum Seminar for all HPER academic programs, and Health & Wellness. Lisa has also taught classes in Kickboxing, Pilates, Zumba and Spinning.
Additional Certificates
As if the previously mentioned certificates were not enough, Lisa is also is credentialed in Basic Life Support (BLS), cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and in the use of the automated external defibrillator (AED). She is a Powerhouse Pilates Certified Instructor and has Spinning Group Exercise Instructor Certification and Maddog Certification.
Volunteer Work
Lisa is especially involved in Lorain County Special Olympics, St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church, the Greater Lorain County United Way and the United We Sweat Committee. She is similarly involved with the Lorain County Health District CHIP tobacco committee and the Lorain County Metro Parks. In this latter capacity, she has been a presenter for monthly Hike for your Health wellness talks and walks.
